BMW of Bridgeport organized their annual Cars&K-9s event at the Westport/Saugatuck Metro North station on Sunday, Sept. 7. The yearly cars&coffee event benefits the community-funded K-9 unit of the Westport Police Department, and regularly draws hundreds of vehicles and raises thousands of dollars.

This year’s event was co-hosted by the Sumra Allstate Agency, Automobilia, and Long Island Bimmers, with much needed hot, caffeinated brews donated by Sound Coffees of Bridgeport. Music by DJ Stanimol (alongside his E36 M3) set the atmosphere alongside the rumble of pop of engines and exhausts with over 20 vehicles from attending from Long Island alone.

The Westport Police Department’s K-9 unit consists of two handlers and three dogs. Corporal James Loomer handles Brutte, a Belgian Malinois certified in patrol techniques and narcotics detection, and Ambo, a Labrador retriever certified in explosives detection. Corporal David Scinto handles Grizz, a Belgian Malinois-German shepherd mix. The two performed a demonstration of multiple techniques, from narcotics detection to suspect apprehension with Scinto in a padded suit in front of the crowd.

Attendees included 3-series, M2, M5, M6 and X5 M models, multiple generations of the M3 and M4, the Automobilia Porsche 911 Turbo, even a Porsche Cayman GT4RS. An expected crowd of over 2,200 RSVPs was dampened by rainy weather, but the cars&coffee event will return next year at Sherwood Island State Park.
