50 Years of BMW NA

BMW has unveiled the refreshed 2026 iX, marking a significant evolution in its electric SUV lineup with enhanced range, performance, and technology. The standout improvement is seen in the iX xDrive60, which now boasts an EPA-estimated range of 364 miles when paired with 20-inch Aero wheels and summer tires. This marks a 7% boost over earlier estimates, positioning it among the longest-range electric vehicles in its segment. With more range than any Tesla on the market, the 2026 iX plans to be the leading example in the luxury electric landscape. 

Early Years

Just days after beginning operations, BMW’s racing spirit came to life when two 3.0 CSLs, developed by the young BMW Motorsport division, competed in the 12 Hours of Sebring. Sporting “Bavarian Motor Works” windshield banners, these cars helped correct a common misconception among Americans that BMW stood for British Motor Works. The #25 3.0 CSL, driven by Brian Redman and Allan Moffat (substituting for Ronny Petersen), secured an overall victory, firmly establishing BMW’s motorsport legacy in the U.S.

Over the past 50 years, BMW has continued to strengthen its reputation and expand its footprint across the U.S. market. Its portfolio now includes BMW Motorrad, MINI, and Rolls-Royce. The company also established BMW Financial Services and opened a manufacturing plant in South Carolina—now the largest BMW production facility in the world.
