The New BMW iX: Enhanced Performance, Efficiency, and Design

A pioneer in electric mobility, the BMW iX seamlessly blends progressive luxury with zero-emission driving. The latest iteration of this all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) raises the bar with increased performance and an extended driving range, reaffirming its leadership in the segment. Now capable of reaching a remarkable WLTP range of up to 701 km (435 miles), the BMW iX exemplifies the effectiveness of BMW EfficientDynamics technology.
Improved Efficiency and Performance
Continuous advancements in power electronics, wheel bearings, and tires have enhanced efficiency, reducing energy consumption by over 8% in WLTP testing. The BMW iX xDrive60, for instance, gains approximately 60 km (37 miles) in range. The updated lineup, set for release in spring 2025, includes:
- BMW iX xDrive45 – 21.8 kWh/100 km
- BMW iX xDrive60 – 21.9 kWh/100 km
- BMW iX M70 xDrive – 23.5 kWh/100 km
Production continues at BMW’s Dingolfing plant, the Group’s center for electric drive manufacturing and premium model assembly.

Refined Exterior and Sporty Design
The new BMW iX features a bold, minimalist design with SAV proportions and clean lines. Notable exterior updates include:
- Redesigned BMW kidney grille with vertical and diagonal accents
- Available BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting (standard on the M70 xDrive)
- Adaptive LED headlights with new city lights and vertical daytime running elements
- Sleek front and rear aprons with higher body-colored surfaces
The M Sport package, now optional across all-electric SAV models, enhances the iX’s dynamic character with aggressive air intakes and vertical rear reflectors. The M Sport Pro package adds darkened headlights, taillights, and distinctive M elements. The top-tier BMW iX M70 xDrive includes an exclusive M kidney grille, black mirror caps, and 22-inch M light-alloy wheels.
New paint options debut in summer 2025, including Arctic Race Blue, Dune Grey, Carbon Black, Frozen Deep Grey, Frozen Pure Grey, Tanzanite Blue, and Space Silver.
Powertrain Enhancements and Acceleration Gains
Every BMW iX model features electric all-wheel drive with fine-tuned power electronics for increased performance:
- iX xDrive45 – Now delivering 408 hp, with a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 5.1 seconds (1.0-second improvement)
- iX xDrive60 – Producing 544 hp, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds
- iX M70 xDrive – Generating up to 659 hp in My Mode Sport, delivering a peak torque of 1,100 Nm (811 ft-lb), and accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (3.5 sec with the “1-foot rollout” method)

Unmatched Range and Charging Efficiency
Thanks to advanced battery cell technology, the iX xDrive45 gains a 30% increase in energy capacity (94.8 kWh), while other variants hold at 109.1 kWh (iX xDrive60) and 108.9 kWh (iX M70 xDrive). Optimized inverter technology improves power transfer efficiency, boosting range up to 40% depending on the model:
- iX xDrive60 – WLTP range: 563 to 701 km (350 to 435 miles)
- iX xDrive45 – WLTP range: 490 to 602 km (305 to 374 miles)
- iX M70 xDrive – WLTP range: 521 to 600 km (324 to 373 miles)
Adaptive recuperation enhances energy efficiency while driving, and the MAX RANGE function can extend available range by up to 25%.
