2020 BMW M8 Competition
Overview
With muscular proportions and massive power, the 2020 BMW M8 is a bully among boulevard cruisers. This badass Bimmer is based on the regular BMW 8-series—both are available as a coupe and convertible. The 2020 M8 lineup is expected to launch this summer, with prices starting at $133,995 for the coupe and significantly increasing on the convertible and Competition models.
Engine, Ride, and Handling
The M8 will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8, which also motivates the BMW M5. The standard M8 engine makes 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, while the Competition model makes another 17 ponies (617 hp total). This higher-performance model also receives a firmer suspension, sportier exhaust system, unique “Track” drive mode, and unique wheels. Every M8 also will employ an eight-speed automatic transmission to handle gearchanges. The M8’s all-wheel-drive system will boast a rear-wheel-drive mode that’s perfect for kicking the tail out and drifting around corners. BMW says that it has simplified the M8’s drive-mode settings and also announced that the car will feature a new braking system with adjustable pedal feel.
Interior and Technology
As with most BMW M cars, the interior design and passenger space are virtually identical with the regular models. The M8 is no different. Its cabin will provide plenty of space up front as well as slick content such as a digital instrument panel and a user-friendly infotainment system. While we haven’t seen a final version of the M8 interior, our time spent with the BMW M850i coupe and its convertible equivalent ensure the hot-rodded models will have sumptuous materials and extravagant features.
