|The BMW ActiveHybrid 535i arrives spring 2012|
BMW takes the development of intelligent hybrid drive systems to the next level with the introduction of the BMW ActiveHybrid 5, another series produced model in which a combustion engine and electric motor join forces to enhance both efficiency and the brand's hallmark driving pleasure. The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 brings together a BMW TwinPower Turbo in-line 6-cylinder engine, an electric drive system and an 8-speed automatic gearbox for the first time. The latest generation of BMW ActiveHybrid technology also adds precisely controlled and therefore extremely effective intelligent energy management. All of which gives the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 an exceptional balance of performance and fuel efficiency for the benchmark performance sedan in the premium executive car class. Its drive system generates combined output of 335 hp, allowing the car to be driven on electric power alone up to 37 mph (60 km/h) for 2.5 miles (4km), and accelerates the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds (preliminary).
The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 will arrive as a 2012 model in US showrooms in March 2012 with a base MSRP of $61,845 (including $895 destination and handling). The 300 hp inline-6 with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is the same engine well-known for its free-revving capability, pulling power and efficiency in the BMW 535i. The electric motor develops 54 hp and is supplied with energy by a high-performance lithium-ion battery housed in the trunk.
The BMW X1 arrives summer 2012
Agility + elegance = joy to the power of X. This is the formula on which the BMW X1 is based. At first glance it is a compact BMW X model. The second glance comes with the challenge to explore something new. For example, an efficient SUV with BMW driving dynamics. Either with sDrive, with characteristic BMW rear-wheel drive that separates steering from the engine so that every wheel can carry out its own task to perfection. Or as xDrive, with the intelligent all-wheel drive system and optional Performance Control that combines traction and agility. The powerful straight six-cylinder gas and four-cylinder gas and diesel engines work alongside BMW EfficientDynamics, a package of intelligent measures such as the Auto Start Stop function, the gear shift indicator and Brake Energy Regeneration, to guarantee outstanding efficiency. The maximum five stars awarded in the Euro NCAP crash test unite a clear conscience with a reliable safety.
|The BMW 2013 M5 arrives late summer 2012.|
Dynamic and alluring both inside and out, the all-new BMW M5 is in a class of its own.
Its Nürburgring-honed performance starts with the most powerful engine ever fitted into a series-produced BMW M model. The high-revving 560-hp M TwinPower Turbo V-8 generates 500 lb-ft of peak torque from 1500 to 5750 rpm. A new 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission transfers every ounce of power to the road, for a lightning-fast 0-60 sprint.
Inspired new BMW EfficientDynamics technologies, such as Auto Start-Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration, make the M5 an impressive 25 percent more efficient than its predecessor.
BMW has confirmed that it will offer a 6-speed manual transmission on the North American version of the upcoming 2013 BMW M5. The 6-speed manual will be available from the start of production this summer and will be offered as a no-cost alternative to the standard 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission (DCT). The manual gearbox was a popular choice for U.S. customers of the previous generation M5 and continues to be a unique offer in the segment.
