BMW ActiveHybrid 3 Brings Impressive Technology

When the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 made its official debut in Detroit it caused quite a stir - as was expected. To car enthusiasts the pairing of the 3 Series, known for its performance, and hybrid technology could be as exciting as the royal wedding was for entertainment outlets. To say people were excited would seem a bit of an understatement. In fact, many of the model's improvements went unnoticed. One in particular being the navigation system.

We know, you're probably questioning. What possibly could be so interesting in an navigation system?

Our answer - a lot.

This navigation system is much more advanced than simply alerting drivers when to turn right onto North Street or that Euclid Ave is closed ahead, the system on the ActiveHybrid 3 will be the first in its segment to inform drivers on the best time to use or charge the cars battery with the end goal being to allow the owners to get the most from their hybrid's precious electrons.

How exactly does the system succeed?

We thought you'd never ask.

The system measures a variety of variables, including altitude, distance from destination and other data points along a particular route.  If the route takes the driver up a steep hill, the system will intuit the descending part of the drive. If there is an opportunity for a full charge along the route, the vehicle will use more power on the climb, and avoid any underwhemling bog-down.
