BMW Produces A Truely Inspiring Story

Among the many things we love about BMW cars are their inspired design, performance, and style. But, BMW of Bridgeport isn't here to pontificate on new BMW models, future BMW technology, BMW parts and accessories or the latest power upgrades. No; we're here to share an inspiring story of a different variety. One in which a humble man, proves triumphant in overcoming serious challenges.

That humble man, is Alessandro (Alex) Zanardi ? If you haven't heard his name already, BMW of Bridgeport assures you, you will soon.

In his previous career, Alex took trophy after trophy on the track. His life as circuit champion, however, was cut short in 2001 when at the mercy of horrific crash he lost both of his legs. Or, should we say, temporarily cut short. Unable to stay away from the tack, Alex was back, behind the wheel of BMW Team Italy-Spain's vehicles two years after his operation.

He stayed with the world-acclaimed BMW team for the next six years or so. Then, he decided to lose a wheel. By that, we mean he took up handbiking. An incredibly rigorous sport, handbiking involves a three-wheeled bike operated by arms rather than legs. When on the go, handbike competitors lay in a semi-recumbent position.

Taking his new racing career just as seriously as his old one, Zanardi will be vying for the Gold in this year's 2012 Summer Paralymics. It goes without saying we are proud to be one of Zanardi's biggest cheerleaders. This isn't just because we think his determination is commendable, either.  As seen in a new video produced by BMW, he has great character and immense wisdom to share.

If you haven't watched the video yet, we highly recommend you check it out on YouTube. It takes just about two minutes to watch. If our hunch is right, it'll probably take you longer to add the email addresses of all the people you want to send it to.
